The painting
A grey heron stands in the shallows among tall pale reeds, its reflection wavering beneath it. A hazy sun burns through the fog above a line of distant trees, turning the water to pale gold. The palette is restrained, blue-grey, oat and soft gold, with the textured strokes doing the work.
