The painting
A snow-covered lane curves between stone cottages with lit windows, leading up to a slender church spire. Old-fashioned street lamps glow along the wall, and the snow holds the violet, rose and peach of a winter sunset. The cool lavender palette is warmed by little flecks of lamplight.
